Echternach

The municipality of Echternach took part in the ‘Pakt vum Zesummeliewen’ pilot project between 21 March 2022 and 19 June 2024.

A steering committee made up of members of the local council, the committee of living together and local associations has been set up to oversee the various stages of the ‘Pakt vum Zesummeliewen’.

Although the city of Echternach already had some good practice in intercultural living together before the signing of the “Pakt vum Zesummeliewen” (Bréckefestand E-lake), a review of the situation revealed additional areas of interest.

Following the meetings held on 29 March and 12 May 2022, and taking into account the public's responses to the awareness letter of the “Pakt vum Zesummeliewen”, the steering committee decided to focus on the subject of “communication”.

The results of the communications survey were presented at a citizens' workshop on the 14th March 2023. Unfortunately, although all residents had received an invitation, only one citizen took part in the presentation of the results and gave her opinion. 

• Communications survey 

More than 70 people took part in the initial survey and gave their views on the means of communication in Echternach. A report with the results of this survey was presented to the steering committee on the 14th March 2023. 

• Organisation of a local registration day 

As part of the national registration day on the 18th March 2023, the city of Echternach organised an event to encourage non-Luxembourgish residents to register to vote. The councillors for intercultural living together were on hand to set up an information stand.

• Organisation of language cafes 

In addition to its communication initiatives, the municipality of Echternach is also planning to organise language cafés as part of the PvZ. A formation was held on the 26th September 2023 to show volunteers how to animate and how to fill language cafes with life. A total of 10 people were present and from now on they will be acting as volunteers for the upcoming language cafes.

The municipality of Echternach signed the « Gemengepakt fir interkulturellt Zesummeliewen » on the 19/06/2024. 

A steering committee of 7 members coming from the council of eldermen, the town council, the commission for intercultural living together and two associations bas been set up to oversee the various stages of the « Gemengepakt fir interkulturellt Zesummeliewen » project.
